Does microneedling hurt?

How is microneedling different from dermarolling at home?

Professional microneedling uses medical-grade devices with precise needle depth control (0.5mm-3mm), sterile single-use cartridges, and is performed by trained practitioners who can treat at therapeutic depths safely.

At-home dermarolling uses shorter needles (0.25mm-0.5mm) that only reach superficial skin layers. While home rollers can improve product absorption, they cannot reach the dermal level needed for true collagen induction and scar remodeling.

For real, visible results, especially for acne scars or wrinkles, professional microneedling is necessary.

How many sessions do I need?

The reality is that your skin is unique and it depends on your concerns and goals. For mild retexturing, fine lines, and wrinkles, results can be achieved in 1-3 sessions. Deeper acne scars or severe texture can sometimes require closer to 6 sessions.

Sessions are spaced apart to allow collagen to form between treatments. We’ll create a personalized plan during your consultation.

Can microneedling make acne scars worse?

No. Microneedling is one of the most effective treatments for acne scars. It works by breaking down old scar tissue and stimulating new collagen to fill depressed scars from the inside.

However, you should not get microneedling if you have active acne breakouts, as the needles can spread bacteria. Wait until breakouts are clear, then treat the scars.

What do I do before and after my appointment?

Arrive with clean skin and skip heavy makeup or lotions. Please stop using retinol or acids before the appointment if you use them. If you have an active breakout, cold sore, or skin infection, reschedule your appointment to avoid spreading bacteria.

After the appointment, wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup to allow the micro-channels to close. After 24 hours, use clean brushes and mineral-based makeup. Avoid heavy, pore-clogging products for the first week. Your skin will also be sensitive to the Sun so please avoid Sun exposure after the appointment.

Is there any downtime after microneedling?

Yes – many people experience redness for a few days after an appointment.
